Ron Howard

Episode #25

Meet Ron Howard.

Q: Tell us about you and your business?

A: I’m a youthful 50-year-old, who lives in the city and loves the outdoors. My business is people and our mission is to provide the best real estate services possible while reflecting the highest standards of performance and customer service. In fact, contribution & giving back to the community is one of our Core Values.

Q: Tell us about your Family?

A: I’m married to my wife Jeni, and we’re expecting our first child in October! We have 2 dogs, Lucy & Bernie. We live in Baltimore City and are involved in many charities here.

Q: Tell us about your Community?

A: We live in Canton which is a waterfront community located on the harbor in Baltimore City.

Q: Tell us how you serve or give back in your community?

A: Ronald McDonald House Charities Maryland.

Q: How did you come about selecting this cause?

A: We believe in their mission of keeping families together during a child’s medical crisis. My wife serves on their woman’s committee and we sponsor a number of their events. During the pandemic, no volunteers could help at the house and they were draining funds to feed guests, etc… Their big fundraisers that raise the majority of their operational budget were at risk of being canceled, which would be devastating to the charity.

Q: What are some of the specific things you have done to support this cause?

A: During the pandemic, we launched “The Big Shave down”, a fundraising event where myself and a competitor had competing charities raising money across a 2.5 week period and the loser had to shave their head bald. If we both hit 10k, both of us had to shave our heads! We both made regular video updates to the event and to our social channels and we ended up raising 36k! It even became a great distraction for the many involved in the charities and in our spheres. We both shaved our heads on FB live and had an amazing level of support and thanks for distracting everyone from the stress of living with the virus conditions. With proof of concept, we are now developing “The Big Shave down” into a much larger event with teams and are actually working on plans to take it national.

Q: How do you do it?

A: Created and launched “The Big Shave down”, a fundraising event on Facebook.

A competitor and I had competing charities raising money across a 2.5 week period and the loser had to shave their head bald. (we are developing this into a team event and might make it a national type event)

Q: What has been the impact on the community, your team, and family?

A: The money raised will help RMHCMD during a time when fundraising is tough. I’m actually still getting “thank you” messages regularly for providing a nice distraction as well as fun community-building entertainment from strangers, guests of the house, and board members. Our brand/team continues to build likability in the community by doing good. Based on past experience we are thankful that good deeds at a community level have had enough impact to turn into a business over the years.

Q: What are your plans going forward?

A: With proof of concept, we are now developing “The Big Shave down” into a much larger event with teams and are working on plans to take it nationally!

Q: How would you recommend agents, or brokers get started if they want to make a difference?

A: Link for (RMHCMD) 2020 event : https://rem.ax/3aKFsEh

Q: What’s the big plan with “The Big Shavedown”?

A: We will develop a much larger event and promote it next year!
