Kat Rockwell

Episode #13

Kat Rockwell

Q: Tell us about you and your business?

A: I am the Director of Professional Development for CB&A Realtors, a Senior Coach with Workman Success Systems, an instructor for the Houston Association of Realtors, and I co-lead The Rockwell Team alongside my husband, Quenton Rockwell. Our young and growing team specializes in residential sales and service networks that support our growing client base.

Q: Tell us about your Family?

A: Quenton and I have been married since 2001 and have 2 daughters – Maddie (12) and Evvie (5) (pronounced Ehh-vee).

Q: Tell us about your Community?

A: We’re in Northwest Houston, between the suburbs of Cypress and Tomball. Our community has seen significant growth over the past few years due to expanding roadways and business development that has shifted away from the center of Houston and into our suburb. Another significant change we’ll see in our area will be the construction of a high-speed railway between Houston and Dallas over the next 5-10 years.

Q: Tell us how you serve or give back in your community?

A: As we rang in 2020, our team introduced the Live Well Initiative. This significant shift in the way we do business directs every decision we make and keeps our focus on impacting the world around us. ‘Live well’ is our mantra, centered on helping others achieve physical, mental, and financial health. Part of this initiative is forming partnerships with local organizations and programs that directly impact our community. Three of these include:

– Giving to Heroes: a partnership with our preferred lender where we contribute a portion of our income to closing costs for veterans, first responders, teachers, medical professionals, and government employees.

– The Judah Brown Project: a Houston-based non-profit whose mission is to help prevent children from drowning. They provide funding for survival swim instruction for children under 6, traditional swim lessons for children over 6, CPR certification, and other lifesaving education to families.

– Wreaths Across America: a non-profit that provides and lays live Maine wreaths on the graves of our fallen veterans during the holidays.

Q: How did you come about selecting this cause?

A: The opportunity to get involved with Giving to Heroes was presented to our team earlier this year. We didn’t hesitate to make the decision because we knew we would be able to impact a large number of lives in our community. For example, our local school district, Cy-Fair ISD, is the 3rd largest in the state of Texas. Our first responders serve the largest county in the state. The crazy thing is, at the beginning of 2020 when we started this partnership, there was no way we could have known just how essential the people in these professions would be. What we’ve experienced over the past few months and witnessing how so many of these heroes have kept our communities together, our team couldn’t be more proud to give back and help make homeownership easier for them.

Q: What are some of the specific things you have done to support this cause?

A: In addition to our preferred lender’s contribution, our team gives 10% of our commissions towards the closing cost of any veteran, first responder, teacher, medical professional, or government employee.

One of our favorite events this year took place during COVID. We reached out and encouraged our client base and those we know personally, to nominate their favorite community hero for a special Mother’s Day gift basket – specifically someone they knew who had been working tirelessly during the crisis. We received several nominations and were able to surprise 5 local moms with luxury spa gift baskets for Mother’s Day. The best part was that it wasn’t about our team. We gave all the credit to our clients and friends who made the nominations.

Q: What has been the impact on the community, your team, and family?

A: The feedback we’ve received is that those in our community feel like they are seen and valued. Our anchor core value is, “impact the world around us.” For our team & our family, it’s shifted our focus to serving first before personal gain. If the last few months have taught us anything, it’s most definitely the importance of recognizing the skilled individuals who keep our communities going.

Q: What are your plans going forward?

A: We’re looking to add one more partnership by the end of the year that will allow us to provide financial support to a company called Shield Bearers – a faith-based, non-profit, counseling center that specializes in families and post-traumatic stress.

Q: How would you recommend agents or brokers get started if they want to make a difference?

A: Do what you’re passionate about and start where you are. Everything – every little thing – makes a difference.
